Natalia Kiés Performing Own Compositions at the German Consulate General
Thursday May 17, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The German Consulate General Presents:“Music expresses what cannot be said and what is impossible to be silent about.” (Victor Hugo)
For the first time Natalia Kiés will present her solo program “Phoenix” at the German House with previously unpublished music from her upcoming album as well as songs from her album “Storyteller”.
Her music is like her path of life… not a straight line but intertwined… with detours and stops in different musical countries, stranded in her own musical world full of charming contrasts and plenty of room for evolution. From this perspective Natalia Kiés has been always communicative, her main language is music: While her contemporaries mauled their flutes, melodica and glockenspiel to create some sound, four-year-old Natalia sat out of her own free will in front of the piano at home to practice classical music with childish enthusiasm. This idyll was cut off after the collapse of the Iron Curtain, as her family moved from Upper Silesia to Germany and Natalia was forced to leave her beloved piano behind. At first she took a break from her passion for music, but the urge to dedicate her life to music only grew…
Natalia Kiés first studied classical piano at Folkwang University in Essen, Germany, followed by vocal studies at the Institute of the Arts in Arnheim, Netherlands, focusing on Jazz and Pop. Today she composes her own music in various languages which are characterized by her unique piano playing and voice, revealing a whole new world of distinctive soundscapes.
