Kirill Gerstein with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, at Lincoln Center (Site)

Wednesday August 16, 2017, 7:30 pm

$35 – $85

This poetic program celebrates the creative spark shared by virtuoso musician Clara Schumann; her husband, Robert Schumann; and their friend Johannes Brahms. Alone at the piano, Kirill Gerstein opens the performance with Brahms’s touching tribute to Robert. The Festival Orchestra then joins for Robert’s ravishing piano concerto, which was written for Clara. The program finishes with the blazing triumph of Brahms’s First Symphony, its finale ringing with a theme Brahms had sent to Clara along with the famous message, “Thus blew the shepherd’s horn today!”
