Thomas Steigerwald, pianist and native Texan, made his orchestral debut at age 18 with the San Antonio Symphony. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music in the studio of Douglas Humpherys, he currently studies with Matti Raekallio in the M.M. program at the Juilliard School. Thomas is Prize Winner of the 62nd Wideman International Piano Competition, the 2014 New York International Piano Competition and the 16th San Jose International Piano Competition, where he received both the Public Prize and Best Performance of Russian Music.

He was a Prize Winner in the 2014 San Antonio Tuesday Musical Club Young Artist Competition, the 2013 Dallas Chamber Symphony Concerto International Piano Competition and the 2103 Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Solo Competition. As Semi-finalist in the 2013 Citta di Cantu International Piano Competition in Cantu, Italy, he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Romanian Mihail Jora Philharmonic Orchestra with Ovidiu Balan, conductor.

An avid chamber musician, Thomas performed eighteen concerts across China with violist Brett Deubner in August 2017. They performed in several major cities, including Chongqing, Zhengzhou and the island city of Zhoushan. He has collaborated in performances at the Round Top Festival Institute, the Aspen Music Festival, the Dakota Sky International. Piano Festival, and the Schlern International Music Festival. His performances include quintets by Mozart, Brahms, Franck, and Frank Martin, duets with flutists Ransom Wilson and Gretchen Pusch, cellist Maxim Kozlov and violinist Christiano Rodriques.

His collaborations with the Texas Festival Orchestra include Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan under the baton of Michael Stern, Ruckert Lieder with mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, Copeland’s Rodeo – Three Dances with Maestro Perry So, and Carnival of the Animals conducted by Emilio Colon. In addition to numerous solo recitals, Thomas has performed works for two pianos with Trevor Hale. Thomas Steigerwald performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2014, representing the Eastman School of Music.
