The Vivian Beaumont Theater, Lincoln Center’s largest space and the only thrust stage on Broadway, opened to the public in 1965. It was originally the home of the former Repertory Theater of Lincoln Center and of Joseph Papp’s New York Shakespeare Festival, among others. In 1985, the building’s current management—Lincoln Center Theater—was established and has since produced many acclaimed and Tony Award-winning shows including Six Degrees of Separation, Contact, South Pacific, and The Coast of Utopia. The Vivian Beaumont Theater has entrances on Hearst Plaza by the Reflecting Pool and on West 65th Street across from The Juilliard School.
