One of the finest artists and minds in jazz and beyond, pianist Fred Hersch has been an influential creative force for more than 30 years.

Among the accolades: “the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade” (Vanity Fair), “an elegant force of musical invention” (Los Angeles Times), and “a living legend” (The New Yorker). Hersch joins us with his exemplary trio – bassist Drew Gress and drummer Jochen Rueckert – and the Crosby Street String Quartet for a live performance of the work that is the focus of his latest recording project, Breath by Breath. The meditation-inspired eight-movement suite reflects the lyricism, contemplative quality, and delicate beauty that are a hallmark of Hersch’s music, with the added colors and textures brought by this enthralling first collaboration between his jazz trio and a string quartet.
