Caelan Cardello began playing piano at age 5 and soon after embarked on formal training in both classical and jazz piano, studying with Allen Farnham and Steve Masi. His early development led to mentorships with renowned pianists Fred Hersch, Frank Kimbrough, and Dave Kikoski.

A pivotal part of Caelan’s musical journey was his seven-year involvement with Jazz House Kids in Montclair, NJ, directed by Melissa Walker and Christian McBride. As a featured artist in their ensembles, he performed and studied with legends including Jimmy Cobb, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane, and Bruce Hornsby. These experiences opened doors to perform at major NYC venues like Dizzy’s Club, Minton’s, and the Jazz Standard.

Other formative highlights include performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall, music-directing the Sarah Vaughan Centennial, and appearing with the Newport at 70! band curated by McBride. Caelan has earned numerous honors, including the New Jersey Governor’s Award, the BMI Future Jazz Master Award, and a soloist award at the Charles Mingus High School Competition, which led to a performance with the Mingus Big Band. He was also a finalist for the American Pianists Awards, a prize worth over $200,000 in career support.
