Graphic Content: Feldman & Brown at 100 is a citywide festival celebrating the centennial birthdays of New York School pioneers Morton Feldman and Earle Brown. Across seventeen concerts, talks, and special events, the festival brings together leading performers from the contemporary music community to explore two composers whose revolutionary ideas transformed the landscape of twentieth-century music.

The heart of the festival is a 10-concert series at St. Michael’s Church, featuring landmark works including Piano and String Quartet, Trio, Three Voices, For John Cage, String Quartet No. 2, and more. A 10-Day Festival Pass is available for admission to all St. Michael’s concerts.

Morton Feldman: Piano and String Quartet with new choreography by Annie Nikunen

Numerous Voices and Apmonia String Quartet

A conversation across generations, this program pairs Negar Soley’s Numerous Voices—a meditation on multiplicity, memory, and the expressive possibilities of the human voice—with Earle Brown’s groundbreaking String Quartet, a work that reimagines the quartet through openness, spontaneity, and performer agency.

Three Voices by Morton Feldman

Nina Guo performs Feldman’s hypnotic masterpiece for three sopranos transforms repetition into a subtly shifting monumentality. Dedicated to the memory of painter Philip Guston, the work reflects Feldman’s lifelong dialogue with the Abstract Expressionists.

BlackBox Ensemble and WIMIN perform Feldman’sViola in My Life I-III and György Kurtág’s Hommage à R. Sch.

Besides celebrating the centennials of Morton Feldman and Earle Brown, this festival also marks the 100th birthday of György Kurtág. This program pairs Feldman’s deeply personal series, Viola in My Life I-III with Kurtág’s haunting Hommage à R. Sch., bringing together two composers who transformed the smallest of musical gestures into expansive worlds.
