Bertha Hope is a celebrated jazz pianist, educator, and composer whose career began in Los Angeles and flourished in New York City after her 1960 marriage to pianist Elmo Hope. She has performed with legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Nat Adderley, and Philly Joe Jones, and co-founded ensembles like Jazzberry Jam! and ELMOllenium. A respected figure in the New York jazz scene, she has appeared at iconic venues including Birdland, the Apollo Theater, and the Kennedy Center. Bertha has received multiple lifetime achievement awards and her oral history is archived in the Library of Congress. She continues to teach and perform, including a residency at Minton’s in Harlem.
