Four Movements, One Masterpiece: Ravel’s Piano Trio at Dorot (Site)

Pianist Kessa Mefford, violinist Sasha Yakub, and cellist Clara Cho come together to perform one of Maurice Ravel’s greatest and most challenging works, the Piano Trio in A Minor. Spurred by the energy of patriotism, Ravel composed this 30-minute work in only five weeks, hoping to finish it quickly before going to serve in the French army in World War I. The music travels through the entire human experience, with four movements each visiting a different emotional place. This piece is described by Ravel expert Kessa Mefford as his “greatest composition!”
