Departmnet Chair, Joan Forsyth, brings Third Street piano faculty together for an epic performance of Frederic Rzewski’s monumental piano work, The People United Will Never Be Defeated!, 36 Variations on a Chilean Folk Song (1975), based on the Chilean protest anthem “¡El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido!”.

This hour-long masterpiece, a major 20th-century piano work, explores revolutionary themes through intricate variations, incorporating extended techniques, political allusions, and contrasting styles, often seen as a modern counterpart to Bach’s Goldbergs or Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations.
