SUMMARY:The Kosciuszko Voice/Cello/Piano Triad: Music of Poland\, America and France\, at The Kosciuszko Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The event celebrating Kosciuszko’s ties to Poland\, America\, and France through music connecting three cultures. \n\nPoland\, America\, and France each held an important place in the extraordinary life of Tadeusz Kościuszko. On October 1\, the Kosciuszko Foundation brings these three cultural worlds together through music in The Kosciuszko Triad: Music of Poland\, America\, and France\, a special recital at the Foundation’s historic House in New York City. \nFeaturing Patrycja Posłuszna\, soprano; Boubacar Diallo\, cello; and Nicholas Alexander Kaponyas\, piano\, the evening will trace a musical journey across national traditions and generations\, from the unmistakable poetry of Fryderyk Chopin to the refined colors of French music and the distinctive voice of American composer Amy Beach. \n  \nThe program pairs celebrated masterworks with intimate musical gems. Chopin is represented both by the youthful charm of his song Życzenie (The Wish) and by the profound Cello Sonata in G minor\, Op. 65—one of the composer’s last major works and a compelling culmination of the evening. French music comes to the fore in Claude Debussy’s Cello Sonata\, by turns mysterious\, playful\, and electrifying\, and in Henri Duparc’s evocative song La vie antérieure. Amy Beach’s Romance\, Op. 26 contributes an American voice of sweeping lyricism\, while works by Ludomir Różycki\, Moritz Moszkowski\, and Ralph Vaughan Williams further enrich a program built around melody\, poetry\, and musical dialogue. \nMore than a recital\, The Kosciuszko Triad reflects an idea at the heart of the Kosciuszko Foundation: that culture can create lasting connections between nations. Kościuszko’s own remarkable journey linked Poland with America and France; this evening reimagines that historic triangle through the universal language of music. \n  \n  \nMEET THE ARTISTS: \nPolish-American soprano Patrycja Posłuszna is a New York-based artist whose performances encompass opera\, art song\, and prominent Polish-American cultural events. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College\, where she studied with Jack LiVigni\, and continued her graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music under his guidance as a recipient of the Mae Zenke Orvis Opera Scholarship. \nHer operatic credits include Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi\, Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen\, and roles in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Dido and Aeneas. She has also been selected to participate in the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices under the direction of renowned mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick. \n  \nBoubacar Diallo is a New York City–born cellist\, educator\, and C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at The Juilliard School\, where he also serves as a teaching assistant. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Juilliard\, he has performed internationally and at leading venues including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. \nBoubacar has collaborated with distinguished artists and ensembles including Lang Lang\, Anne-Sophie Mutter\, the Kronos Quartet\, Ying Quartet\, and members of the New York Philharmonic. He is a tenured member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and has served as guest principal cellist of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. \nAn active chamber and contemporary musician\, Boubacar has premiered numerous new works and participated in programs including the Heifetz International Music Institute and Perlman Music Program. Alongside his performance career\, he teaches at Riverdale Country School and the 92nd Street Y and maintains a private cello studio. \n  \nPolish-American pianist Nicholas Alexander Kaponyas has established a wide-ranging career as a soloist\, collaborative pianist\, vocal coach\, educator\, and artistic director. He began his piano studies with his mother\, Bozena Konkiel\, at KOBO Music Studio and subsequently studied with Richard Shirk\, Martin Labazevitch\, Marcia Eckert\, and Eteri Andjaparidze. \nKaponyas has appeared at Carnegie Hall’s Weill and Zankel Halls\, Steinway Hall\, Merkin Hall\, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York\, and the Kosciuszko Foundation\, as well as in Poland\, Canada\, and Puerto Rico. His collaborators have included distinguished singers Tomasz Konieczny and Krzysztof Bączyk\, among others. \nA recipient of an Honorable Mention in Yamaha’s National Young Performing Artists Competition\, Kaponyas is currently on the adjunct faculties of CUNY Queens College\, CUNY Hunter College\, Adelphi University\, and New York University. He is also co-director of KOBO Music Studio and Artistic Director of the American Young Artists’ Association.

SUMMARY:The Classical Piano Salon - Inaugural Concert at The Kosciuszko Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The event connects rising young artists with established performers while supporting talented students. \nThe Kosciuszko Foundation is pleased to host the Classical Piano Salon Inaugural Concert\, a new artistic initiative created and led by Polish pianists Elżbieta Bilicka and Mateusz Mikołajczak. \nInspired by the 19th-century salon tradition\, the Classical Piano Salon offers intimate concerts that bring audiences closer to classical music in a welcoming atmosphere. The series connects rising young artists with established performers while supporting talented students—particularly those with disabilities and those facing financial barriers to artistic education. Performances are complemented by masterclasses and opportunities for artistic exchange. \nProgram Highlights \nThe April 8 program will open with a performance by Elsie Lu\, an undergraduate student at The Juilliard School. Her recital will begin with Frédéric Chopin’s Ballade in F major and conclude with two Moments musicaux by Sergei Rachmaninoff. \nFollowing her performance\, audiences will be invited behind the scenes of the pianist’s craft during a short demonstration masterclass led by the evening’s featured guest artist\, Nicolas Namoradze—winner of the Honens International Piano Competition and faculty member at Juilliard and CUNY. Namoradze will work with thirteen-year-old Haowen Deng\, a student of the Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School for individuals with visual impairments. \nThe evening will conclude with a solo recital by Nicolas Namoradze featuring Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata in F major\, Op. 54 and the Grosse Fuge\, Op. 133\, presented in the artist’s own virtuosic arrangement. \nThe project is organized by internationally active pianists and educators Elżbieta Bilicka and Mateusz Mikołajczak\, prizewinners of numerous piano competitions. Bilicka is a graduate of music universities in Bydgoszcz\, the Haute École de Musique in Geneva\, and the Manhattan School of Music\, and is currently completing doctoral studies at CUNY. Mikołajczak is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wroclaw\, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid\, and the Juilliard School\, where he is finalizing his Artist Diploma. Both artists are deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of musicians. \nThe Kosciuszko Foundation is pleased to provide a welcoming space for this inspiring initiative and to support the vibrant exchange between artists and audiences that the Polish Classical Salon seeks to cultivate. \nABOUT THE PERFORMERS: \nPassionate about connecting audiences to both timeless and new music\, Elsie Lu has performed with orchestras including the Bellevue Symphony\, Bruensis Virtuosi\, Orchestra of MusicFest Perugia\, and Philharmonia Northwest\, appearing in venues from Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie to Van Cliburn Concert Hall\, Queen Elizabeth Playhouse\, Seattle Town Hall\, and Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. She has received top prizes in competitions such as the Canimex Canadian Music Competition\, the Canada West Performing Arts Festival\, the Steinway Canada Young Artist Competition\, the 6th NW International Piano Ensemble Competition\, the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition\, the Chicago International Music Competition\, and the 50th SYAMFA concerto competition. \nAs an advocate for new music\, Elsie is committed to performing works by both underrepresented composers and prominent contemporary figures. In 2025\, she had the opportunity to work closely with acclaimed composer Meredith Monk to prepare her piano four-hands repertoire and a vocal chant\, culminating in a performance at Zankel Hall. Elsie is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Soyeon Kate Lee\, having previously studied with Sasha Starcevich and Rada Bukhman. \nHaowen Deng\, age 13\, is a pianist from New York City. He has studied classical piano since 2018 and currently studies with Jennifer Apsel at the Filomen M. D’Agostino Greenberg Music School\, which is dedicated to students who are blind or visually impaired. Haowen has performed at many venues\, including Symphony Space\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, and The Explorers Club\, and has won awards in the Bella Music Foundation Competition and the International Piano Star Competition. Haowen creates his own podcast\, called Blind Kid’s Life\, and is also an active composer\, specializing in avant-garde and experimental music. \nNICOLAS NAMRORADZE is a visionary pianist and composer known for his innovative artistry. He came to international attention in 2018 upon winning the triennial Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary\, Canada\, and has since garnered international acclaim for his performances and recordings. A Musical America New Artist\, BBC Music Magazine Rising Star\, and Gramophone One to Watch\, he was bestowed the Pianist of the Year Award by the UK Critics’ Circle in 2022. \nHis often sold-out recitals around the globe have been met with critical praise\, and recent album releases have received extraordinary accolades\, including the Choc de Classica\, Record of the Month in Limelight\, Instrumental Disc of the Month in BBC Music Magazine\, Editor’s Choice in Gramophone\, Editor’s Choice in Presto Classical and Critics’ Choice in International Piano\, as well as a first-place debut in the UK charts for classical instrumental albums. SUMMARY:Letters to a Future Self: Chamber Music of Debussy and Brahms\, at The Kosciuszko Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Letters to a Future Self\nAn exploration of the journey from youthful to mature works of Debussy and Brahms sheds light on their stylistic arcs. \nThe first half features both an early creation of a young Claude Debussy as well as his final masterpiece\, crafted when he was recognized as one of history’s greatest composers and widely regarded for his pivotal influence. The program concludes with Johannes Brahms’ first Piano Trio\, composed when he was only twenty years old but heavily revised in his later years. Side by side\, they illuminate the development of both of these giants.

SUMMARY:Chopin & Champagne at The Kosciuszko Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Chopin & Champagne \nPerfect date in the Upper East Side.\nVibe: Sentimental / NocturnalSuggested Dress code: Cocktail Attire \n\nMoët & Chandon champagne reception (included with every ticket)\n50 minute piano recital of Chopin’s best known works interspersed with musical anecdotes and stories from the past\n\n\nHistoric salon ambiance\n\nMusic\, Champagne\, Stories.\nJoin us for an evening of romantic music\, fine champagne\, and musical anecdotes. We’ve paired the timeless music of Frédéric Chopin—Parisian musical icon of the 19th century—with an equally timeless brand of champagne. Acclaimed pianist Vladimir Rumyantsev will perform a carefully curated selection of Chopin’s most famous pieces. The brief recital will be interspersed with amusing and revealing insights from the host\, Daniel Zinn. There will be time at the end for audience questions and discussion \nPerfect date\, this concert blends world-class music with engaging conversation and fine champagne.\nPiano: Vladimir Rumyantsev\nVladimir Rumyantsev is an internationally acclaimed pianist\, celebrated for his virtuosity and profound interpretations of the piano’s vast repertoire. His talent emerged early\, and at just seven years old\, he made his debut at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory where he won Moscow’s Glinka competition. \nRumyantsev received his foundational training at the Gnessin Moscow Special School for Music under Mikhail Khokhlov and later studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Sergey Dorensky\, Alexander Bakhchiev\, Elena Sorokina\, Pavel Nersessian\, and Nikolai Lugansky. He earned advanced degrees at the Mannes School of Music in New York under Pavlina Dokovska and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Hartt School under the mentorship of Jose Ramos Santana. \nRumyantsev has performed worldwide at such prestigious venues as the Moscow Philharmonic\, Carnegie Hall\, Covent Garden\, the Mariinsky Theatre\, New York City Center\, The Kennedy Center\, the Great Guild in Riga\, the Dzintari Concert Hall\, and the Bolshoi Theatre\, as well as major theaters across China. He has appeared in such renowned festivals as the Golden Mask Festival in Moscow\, the Bermuda Piano Festival\, The Art of Piano Duo in Boston\, IKIF\, and the Mannes Summer Piano Festival in New York. \nHis performances of Shostakovich and Stravinsky Concertos led to collaborations with the Mariinsky Ballet\, under the batons of Valery Gergiev and Boris Gruzin. Rumyantsev’s performances have been revered by the press\, with The New York Times describing his playing of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations as “excellent\,” and The Wall Street Journal noting his “potent” interpretation. \nIn 2024 he recorded Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Sean Hickey for solo piano\, which was released in early 2025 by Sono Luminus. Praised by Gramophone for his “virtuosity always informed by awareness of resourcefulness and ambiguity\,” Rumyantsev most recently toured the world as a solo artist with Twyla Tharp Dance for her Diamond Jubilee and is producing his own concerts of piano and dance alongside Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre\, Skylar Brandt. \nVladimir Rumyantsev is a Steinway Artist. \nMoët & Chandon Brut has a rich history dating back to 1743\, symbolizing luxury and celebration throughout the centuries. The same era that saw the rise of Romantic composers like Frédéric Chopin also witnessed champagne’s growing popularity among Europe’s elite\, including in Paris\, where Chopin spent much of his life. Just as Chopin’s music evokes elegance\, depth\, and emotion\, Moët Brut represents a refined taste that has been enjoyed during life’s most special moments. Pairing this historic champagne with Chopin’s iconic works connects two legacies of European artistry and sophistication\, enhancing the cultural and sensory experience of the concert. \nFrédéric Chopin (1810–1849) was a Polish composer and pianist\, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers for piano. Known for his delicate touch and poetic expressiveness\, Chopin’s works range from intimate nocturnes and waltzes to powerful polonaises and ballades. His music blends classical form with the folk melodies and dances of his homeland\, creating a deeply personal and emotive style. Though he spent much of his life in Paris\, Chopin’s heart remained tied to Poland\, and his music continues to captivate audiences with its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. \nDaniel Zinn is a conductor and impresario based in Brooklyn\, known for creating intimate\, engaging concert experiences. With his Fort Greene Orchestra\, Zinn blends classical music with striking visuals and relaxed\, conversational formats\, drawing remarkably young audiences. A violinist from Jerusalem\, he studied under Maestro Aaron Rosand in New York. Now\, through events like Chopin and Champagne\, Zinn redefines the classical concert by presenting world-class music in ways that brings the audience closer to the art and its history.
