There will be two sets of music\, at 6:30 and 8:30 P.M. Pluta writes\, “In this piece I have placed 6 telephone pickups on two televisions. I use a mixer to mix the sound of the 6 microphones. I send the sound from the microphones out the speakers and also back into the televisions. This creates the video component of the piece. The sound being sent into the televisions effects the visuals on the screen\, which effects the sound picked up by the telephone pickups – thus resulting in a kind of feedback loop with the televisions acting as a filter.” \n  \nThe programs will also include a new duo by Mariel Roberts Musa for cello and sheng\, and Reiko Füting’s haunting mo(ve)ment for 2: Choreophonie -Schatten/Spiegeltanz- for violin and piano\, which incorporates veiled quotations of Debussy\, Mahler\, Strauss\, and Wolf. \n  \nPrograms (order of sets TBA): \n  \nKate Soper: Songs for Robin (2026) for soprano\, violin and cello** \nI. the goddess laughed (text by Euripides) \nII. SUMMARY:Michele Rosewoman’s Sacred Visions: Oru de Oro\, at NJPAC
DESCRIPTION:World premiere! Sacred Visions: Oru de Oro brings together pianist/composer Michele Rosewoman’s acclaimed New Yor-Uba Ensemble and choreographer Danys “La Mora” Pérez Prades’s Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble in a bold new collaboration. Rooted in Rosewoman’s expansive musical vision\, her jazz-infused suite Oru de Oro is brought vividly to life through La Mora’s visceral and deeply expressive choreography. This breathtaking dialogue between musicians and dancers draws inspiration from Yoruba ceremonial traditions — uniting sacred rhythms\, intricate composition and improvisation\, powerful movement and vibrant storytelling. \nFounded in 1983\, Michele Rosewoman’s New Yor-Uba is a groundbreaking ensemble bridging contemporary jazz with Cuban folkloric traditions. Best known for the landmark work Hallowed\, the project has served for more than four decades as a vital forum for cross-cultural musical exchange. Rosewoman is a recipient of a 2025 Jazz Legacies Fellowship and contributed as pianist and composer to the GRAMMY®-winning album Cuba: The Conversation Continues led by Arturo O’Farrill. \nFounded in 2005 by Danys “La Mora” Pérez Prades\, a 2019 Dance/USA Doris Duke Artist Fellow\, the Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble is a New York City-based company dedicated to the preservation\, performance and evolution of Afro-Cuban folkloric traditions. The company serves as a vital cultural bridge connecting traditions of the African diaspora with contemporary performance practice\, honoring Yoruba\, Congo\, Carabalí\, Arará and Dahomean lineages while celebrating the broader heritage of Cuba.

SUMMARY:Johnny O’Neal Trio at Zinc Bar (Early and Late Shows)
DESCRIPTION:Showtimes: 7:00 PM & 8:30 PM | Tickets: $40 at the door\nReservations: Not necessary — we recommend arriving 20–30 minutes before showtime.\nSeating: Available throughout the shows.\nBar Hours: Open from 5:00 PM to midnight — no cover charge to enjoy cocktails and the vibe! \nJohnny O’Neal pays tribute to his October 10th birthday mates Thelonious Monk\, Junior Mance and Harry “Sweets” Edison \nIf you haven’t caught Johnny O’Neal lately\, you really should. The Detroit-born pianist and vocalist\, whose fabled history includes a stint as a Jazz Messenger in the ’80s and an appearance as Art Tatum in the 2004 movie Ray\, and whose personal health battles appear to be mostly behind him\, is hale and confident. Onstage\, his attitude is sunny\, funny and positive. The 61-year-old fits better these days into the brocaded jackets and hats he often wears\, and his well-known command of postbop piano and sense of dynamics are stronger than ever—all energetic leaps and fluid rhythmic shifts\, as he laughs and grunts and gasps in mock surprise. Then he’ll close his eyes\, downshift the tempo and out comes that blues-soaked voice. With his buoyant personality and an unpredictable set list filled with obscure blues\, ballads and more recent popular songs he chooses to ballad-ize—Nat Cole to Donny Hathaway\, Chaka Khan to Eubie Blake—it’s a joy to hear. Even when he repeats himself\, it never gets old. \nThis event is recurring on the following dates:\nTue\, Dec 22 at 07:00 PM\nTue\, Dec 22 at 08:30 PM
