SUMMARY:Lluis Capdevila: LAMENT at Klavierhaus
DESCRIPTION:Lluís Capdevila (1981) grew up in the vineyards of Priorat in the Mediterranean Sea (Catalonia\, Northeast of Spain). Since early childhood\, freedom of expression and creativity connected him to playing music\, composing and improvising in such a way that even though he pursued a Degree in Law (Barcelona) and a Master’s in Intellectual Property Law (Stockholm)\, he abandoned that path to focus exclusively on music. Jazz brought him to New York\, with the help of a Fulbright grant\, where he studied at the Aaron Copland School and pursued a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance\, although he continued on his music education and received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University. In New York City he has collaborated with established musicians and emerging talents in various venues. Diaspora (2016) is his debut album and features original compositions inspired by his New York experiences and the dispersion of his generation\, as many left their home country looking for job opportunities. Petros Klampanis (bass) and Luca Santaniello (drums) joined him in a piano trio recording that has received excellent reviews in the United States and Spain\, and left more than fifty concerts. Daybreak Explorations (2018) is a selection of solo piano improvisations recorded at the Staller Center for the Arts. Cinematic Radio(2019) features his original music in a more intimate setting with Petros Klampanis (bass\, loops and percussion) and has the stellar collaboration of Tom Harrell (flugelhorn) in a tune. Ètim (2020) is his first solo piano studio album and presents music from his roots as he composed the music during seven months at the Falset Wine Cathedral (Priorat)\, on a grand piano surrounded by wine in casks and bottles. With Social (2021)\, Capdevila presents his New York trio in an album where he combines original compositions and arrangements of classic jazz standards. Joe Lovano joins the trio to record the original composition ‘East Broadway’. With LAMENT\, Lluis presents new compositions created during the pandemic years\, in his most intimate and personal way.

DESCRIPTION:Pianist Jeremy Manasia has been a fixture on the New York City jazz scene for over 20 years\, as an in-demand sideman\, bandleader\, composer\, recording artist\, and educator. His 6 records as a leader spotlight more than 40 compositions\, and his bebop rooted\, soulful\, impressionistic approach on the piano. Jeremy has performed all over the world with many of the greatest living jazz musicians\, including Gary Bartz\, Al Foster\, Jimmy Heath\, Eddie Gomez\, Louis Hayes\, Jimmy Cobb\, Javon Jackson\, and can be seen regularly in all of New York City’s venues. In addition to his 6 releases as a leader\, which spotlight his more than 40 compositions\, he has appeared on more than 20 records as a sideman\, most recently “For You” – Javon Jackson\, “Art” – Ayumi Kokestsu\, and “The Real Blue” – Pureum Jin. As an educator\, Manasia has mentored several generations of jazz pianists; coupling a harmonic approach derived from Barry Harris and his studies abroad\, and a philosophy inspired by a more than 15 year practice of zen buddhism\, to help bring out a student’s uniquely individual voice. Jeremy is on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music\, a panelist for the National YoungArts Foundation\, has won a Presidential Scholars Teachers Recognition award\, numerous Downbeat Student Music awards and three Charles Mingus Competition awards for his teaching.
