Pegasus: The Orchestra – Debut Concert, at DiMenna Center (Site)

Friday October 13, 2017, 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$40 – $50

The principal string players of Pegasus: The Orchestra – with founder, conductor, and acclaimed pianist Karén Hakobyan – present their season opener and debut performance with a unique program that takes us from the traditional to the innovative, displaying their dexterity and enthusiasm. The program begins with the world premiere of Hakobyan’s spiritually uplifting, complex piano sextet Cras Es Noster (Tomorrow, Be Ours). Then, with Hakobyan stepping off stage, the remaining string quintet performs two special arrangements of five songs by Komitas Vardapet, followed by the Scherzo of Debussy’s String Quartet Op. 10. The climax of the evening comes in the form of Mendelssohn’s thrilling Piano Sextet in D-major, Op. 110, with Hakobyan rejoining the ensemble. From Mendelssohn’s 1824 piece to Hakobyan’s written this year, music of the ages fits together in an exhilarating one-hour experience followed by a social gathering. Tickets include concert admission followed by a champagne reception.
