SUMMARY:Boulez at 100\, Celebrating His Legacy at Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof Foundation welcomes the New York New Music Ensemble for the second installment of their 5th annual residency series at 87 Eldridge Street. Please join on Monday\, March 10th\, at 7pm for a celebration of Pierre Boulez. \nBOULEZ AT 100: CELEBRATING HIS LEGACY \nThis year is the centenary of Pierre Boulez\, a unique artist who transformed our music world in myriad ways. Two very different Boulez works reveal disparate styles and periods in his creative output. The early Sonatine (1946) for flute and piano revels in serial complexity and muscular virtuosity; Derive I (1984)\, one of a series of works where the composer reworks and re-imagines fragments from earlier pieces\, deals with ornamentation and contemplative stasis. Jeffrey Mumford’s a garden of flourishing paths is a lithe and lyrical tribute to his teacher Elliott Carter. The concert concludes with James Wood’s\, Crying Bird\, Echoing Star-a work that explores the composer lifelong fascination with birdsong and astronomy. \nProgram:\nPierre Boulez – Derive I (1984)\nJeffrey Mumford – a garden of flourishing paths (2008)\nPierre Boulez – Sonatine (1946)\nJames Wood – Crying Bird\, Echoing Star (2001) \nEnsemble:\nDaniel Druckman\, percussion\nEmi Ferguson\, flute\nChris Finckel\, cello\nStephen Gosling\, piano\nKaren Kim\, violin\nAdrián Sandí\, clarinet *\nEduardo Leandro\, conductor \n*Guest Artist \nArtwork by Richard Hennessy
