SUMMARY:Mozart meets Mysliveček: an Evening of Opera and Chamber Works at Bohemian National Hall
DESCRIPTION:The program will be presented by the young artists of Mannes and The School of Drama of the College of Performing Arts of The New School. \nThe concert is curated and directed by William Gustafson. \nThe arias from Mysliveček’ opera will be presented in New York for the first time in the arrangement for voice and piano\, thanks to the cooperation with Collegium 1704 Prague baroque orchestra\, who provided the notes\, and Czech opera singer Kristýna Kůstková. \nKnown as “Il Divino Boemo”\, the Divine Bohemian\, Josef Mysliveček (1737-1781) was both one of the most celebrated opera composers of his time\, and a significant contributor to late eighteenth century classicism. \nAs American musicologist Daniel Evan Freeman said: “He was unquestionably one of the greatest models for the young Mozart in composition\, and he had a close personal relationship with Mozart that was unique.” This exciting production includes opera selections and instrumental music from both Mysliveček and Mozart. \nThe concert was prepared in collaboration with Collegium 1704 Prague baroque orchestra and Czech opera singer Kristýna Kůstková.
