The German Consulate General Co-Presents:
Mannes Sounds Festival is celebrating the International Women’s Day with some of the most romantic works in the classical music repertoire.
The concert, “Dichterliebe – The Poet’s Love”, features the famous song cycle of Robert Schumann. Schumann’s love for Clara, who became his wife, was the most important source of inspiration for him as a composer. Clara Schumann, born Clara Wieck, was one of the greatest pianists of the 19th century. An extraordinary woman of tremendous character, she was able to successfully combine her professional responsibilities as a performer with those of wife and mother of eight children. Clara also became an inspiration to another great composer, Johannes Brahms, whose Piano Quartet op.60 in C Minor will be performed.
Through the charm of 19th century dance, a selection of short waltzes for piano four hands by the prominent contemporary composer, Wolfgang Rhim, will bring us to the spirit of our own times.

This exciting concert will be performed by the outstanding young artists of the Mannes School of Music.

Program:

Robert Schumann:“ Dichterliebe “ for tenor and piano
Wolfgang Rhim :Selection from Kurze Waltzer for piano four hands
Johannes Brahms:Piano Quartet op.60 in C minor
