From Bach to Brahms! with the Langley-Suran Duo, at Scandinavia House (Site)

Violinist Harriet Langley and Swedish pianist Lana Anikina Suran perform violin sonatas by J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Johannes Brahms. The program includes Violin Sonata no.4 in c minor, BWV 1017, by Bach; Violin Sonata no.7 in c minor, op.30 no.2, by Beethoven; and Violin Sonata no.1 in G Major, op.78, by Brahms.

About Harriet Langley:

Born in Sydney, Australia, Harriet began violin studies in Korea at age 4. She continued her studies in Tokyo, Japan at the Toho Gakuin Music School and at the Manhattan School of Music. At the age of 10, Harriet was invited to perform at Ground Zero along with Yo-Yo Ma and Gil Shaham, during the first anniversary of the WTC 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory and is currently completing her Master’s degree at The Juilliard School. Since she made her professional debut as a soloist with the Reno Philharmonic of Nevada at the age of 13, Harriet has performed as a soloist with the London Chamber Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic of Korea, among others. She participated in festivals such as the Seiji Ozawa’s International Music Academy in Switzerland and Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute and has recorded two CDs with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège; the Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto 7 (2011) and Saint-Saëns Pieces for Violin, including Havanaise and Romances (2013).

About Lana Anikina Suran:

Lana Anikina Suran (b. 1992) gave her first public performance at the age of five. She is the winner of SWEA International’s “Paskéll Prize for the Arts” (2015) as well as Second Prize Winner at Tenerife International Piano Competition (2017). She has performed in venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Steinway Hall, Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, The Atheneum, Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Concert Noble in Brussels, Petruzzelli Opera House, Wiener Saal, Mozarteum, Salle Cortot, Grand Hall of Tbilisi State Conservatory and all major concert halls in Sweden, among others. Lana is a prize winner of many international competitions and won the First Swedish Steinway Competition in Gothenburg (2001) at the age of eight. Lana frequently performs in Sweden and abroad and has taken part in international festivals including Musica Mundi in Belgium, Helsingborg Piano Festival, Musik på Slottet, Giresta Musik and Aurora Chamber Music in Sweden, PianoSummer at New Paltz, Todi International Music Masters, ICMF Stavanger, Salzburg Summer Akademie, Jiri Hlinka Academy in Bergen, Schiermonnikoog Internationaal Kammarmuziek Festivaal, Inventio Festival in Paris and “From Easter to Ascension” International Piano Festival in Tbilisi. Her debut CD was released in February 2017 and includes Shostakovich Piano Concerto no.2 with Dalasinfoniettan and Daniel Blendulf as well as solo work by Rachmaninoff.
