Saturday July 13, 2019, 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Welcome to The Silent Clowns Film Series, NYC’s longest-running regularly-scheduled showcase for classic silent film comedy (since 1997)! We present monthly, year-round showings of the silent movies of Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Lloyd, and many others, all with live musical accompaniment by renowned silent film accompanist Ben Model. Every program features a spoken introduction and Q&A by film historians Ben Model and Steve Massa, and our shows are curated by film historian Bruce Lawton. Come early and read our excellent film notes and enjoy silent-era coming attraction slides. Our programs, presented on a regular basis on weekend afternoons, are geared to classic film fans as well as to families.

The Hal Roach Studios was known as The Lot of Fun, and during the silent era developed the house style where human foibles and the frustrations of everyday life were magnified a hundred times over. A PAIR OF TIGHTS, UNACCUSTOMED AS WE ARE, MOVIE NIGHT and SATURDAYS LESSON represent the studios silent summation as it was poised to continue its comic focus into the new sound medium. Guest piano accompanist: Bernie Anderson.
