Eitan Globerson Lecture at Mannes: “Our Brain as Pianist” (Site)

Monday October 9, 2017, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Featuring guest artist Eitan Globerson, this lecture is entitled “Our Brain as Pianist”.

Piano playing is considered one of the most complex actions accomplished by human beings. The pianist employs simultaneously a variety of brain mechanisms, including motor, auditory and cognitive processes. The recruitment of these diverse mechanisms renders piano playing an extremely demanding task, even for the most accomplished performers. The current lecture will present theoretical and practical approaches to piano playing, based on the up-to-date knowledge of the human brain.

Eitan Globerson has been a faculty member of the Jerusalem Academy of Music since 1991 where he also served as Head of the Piano Department and Dean of the Performing Arts. He was Guest Professor at the Yale School of Music. In addition to his musical activities, Eitan Globerson is also active in scientific research. He holds a Ph.D. in Brain Sciences from the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, Bar Ilan University. He is currently affiliated with the Magnetoencephalogram (MEG) laboratory at the Gonda Brain Research Center. His fields of research include music perception, prosody in the general population and the autistic spectrum and psychoacoustics.
