DESCRIPTION:Celebrate New York City’s 400th anniversary with music indelibly linked to the NY Phil’s hometown. Dvořák wrote his iconic New World Symphony while living in New York. Travel back to jazz-age NYC with Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F — featuring soloist Hélène Grimaud — and to the golden age of Broadway with music from Bernstein’s On the Town. Music director of Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg since 2015–16\, he steps down at the end of 2024–25 — his tenth. He is also music director designate of Teatro Real\, assuming his role in the 2025–26 season. Learn more about Gustavo Gimeno \nHélène Grimaud (Piano): Hélène Grimaud is a celebrated pianist whose artistry extends beyond the concert hall. Renowned for her poetic expression and technical prowess\, Grimaud is also a dedicated wildlife conservationist and author. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist since 2002\, her recordings have earned prestigious accolades\, including the Cannes Classical Recording of the Year and the Grand Prix du Disque. Her discography features acclaimed albums such as Credo \, Reflection\, and a celebrated Beethoven album with the Staatskapelle Dresden. Resonances\, her 2010 solo album\, and subsequent releases\, including Duo with cellist Sol Gabetta and Memory (2018)\, highlight her diverse musical range. Her 2020 album\, The Messenger\, explores a unique dialogue between Mozart and Silvestrov. In March 2023 Grimaud released the acclaimed Silent Songs\, a collaboration with baritone Konstantin Krimmel. Her latest project\, For Clara (September 2023)\, revisits Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana alongside Brahms’s Intermezzi and songs.
