DESCRIPTION:On October 22nd\, the Louis Armstrong House Museum will be hosting an Armstrong Now! Concert in the Armstrong Garden! Our Artist in Residence\, Ulysses Owens Jr. has been diving into the Armstrong Archives to reimagine some rare pearls from Louis Armstrong’s catalogue. \nPrior to the concert we will also be hosting a panel discussion in partnership with the National Museum of African American History and Culture. \nPanel Discussion at 1pm / Concert at 2pm. This is a FREE event with pre-registration through Eventbrite.  \nAbout Ulysses Owens Jr: \n\nPerformer\, producer and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. goes the limit in the jazz world and beyond; claiming eight successful albums of his own. Owens has also gained special attention for his performances on GRAMMY Award-winning albums by Kurt Elling and The Christian McBride Big Band . In addition to five Grammy nominated albums with Joey Alexander\, Christian McBride Trio\, John Beasley’s Monk’estra\, and Gregory Porter.\n\nThe concert will feature an all-star band including: \n\nAlphonso Horne – Trumpet\nBirsa Chatterjee – Saxophone\nLuther Allison – Piano\nPhilip Norris – Bass\nMilton Suggs – Voice\nShenel Johns – Voice\nUlysses Owens Jr. – Drums\n\nThe panel will feature: \n\nDr. Stephen Lewis – Curator of Music and Performing Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.\nHannah Grantham – Curatorial Assistant for Music & Performing Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.\nUlysses Owens Jr – Armstrong Now Artist in Residence\nRegina Bain – LAHM Executive Director\nRicky Riccardi – LAHM Director of Research Collections\nJake Goldbas – LAHM Program Director
