Any performance by Sir András Schiff is an event of the highest magnitude, but this concert is even more unmissable for the rare opportunity to hear Sir András perform with his wife, the eminent violinist and pedagogue Yuuko Shiokawa.

This all-Mozart program begins with two pieces that, at their first performance, showed off in a wholly unintentional way the genius of their composer. Each was written in an extreme hurry and, in both instances, Mozart only had time to write out the violin part, leaving himself no choice but to improvise the piano accompaniment at the premiere. Following intermission, the austere E Minor Sonata (Mozart’s sole work written in that key) precedes the effervescent, brilliant A Major Sonata.
